Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 egg yolks
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp vodka or rum (optional, for crispness)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Oil for deep frying (about 4 cups)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Recipe:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, sour cream, vanilla, and vodka until smooth.
  2. Gradually mix in flour and salt to form a dough. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
  4. Roll out the dough very thin (about ⅛ inch). Cut into strips 1×4 inches. Make a slit in the center of each strip and pull one end through to form a twist.
  5. Heat oil to 350°F. Fry the twists in batches until golden, about 30 seconds per side.
  6. Drain on paper towels and cool slightly. Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
