Piquepoul

Piquepoul [pik-pool] (also known as “Picpoul” or “Picapoll”) is an ancient white wine grape variety originating from the Languedoc region in southern France. Known for its high acidity and citrusy flavor, it has been cultivated in this area for centuries. The name of the grape can be translated from French as “lip-stinger”, a nod to its zesty character. Today, it is primarily grown in the AOC Picpoul de Pinet, near the Mediterranean coast. Piquepoul is also cultivated in small quantities in Spain and California, where it contributes to fresh, vibrant wines.
Flavor
Piquepoul wine is known for its high acidity and refreshing citrus flavors, often exhibiting notes of lemon, lime, and green apple, with a subtle hint of minerality. This makes it a crisp and lively choice, perfect for pairing with seafood.
Food Pairing
Piquepoul wine pairs exceptionally well with seafood dishes, such as oysters, mussels, and shrimp, thanks to its high acidity and citrusy flavors. It also complements light salads, goat cheese, and Mediterranean cuisine, enhancing the freshness of these dishes.
