Taittinger
Taittinger is a French champagne house founded in 1734. It is known as one of the most elegant and prestigious champagne brands in the world. The brand is famous for its refined style with a high proportion of Chardonnay, fine bubbles, and notes of white flowers, fresh fruit, and brioche. It is recognizable by its bottle with a gold label and red ribbon.
Interesting fact: During World War II, the Taittinger family, who owned the house, were forced to flee France to escape the Nazis. But before leaving, they hid their most valuable wine collections in the cellars of the Château de la Marquetterie — behind a false wall built by hand. The Nazis searched the estate but never found the hiding place. After the war, the family returned and unearthed the bottles. Today, those wines are considered some of the rarest in the world. One of the bottles was opened in 2014 for the 80th birthday of the house’s chairman, Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger — the 1945 vintage was in perfect condition.
