Nougat

Nougat is a confectionery treat known for its chewy texture and sweet taste. Originating from the Mediterranean region, nougat is traditionally made from sugar or honey, roasted nuts (almonds, walnuts, pistachios, or hazelnuts), and egg whites. There are two main types of nougat: white and brown.
The history of nougat is rich and varied, with its first documented appearance dating back to the Middle Ages. It is believed to have been invented in the Middle East, with early recipes appearing in Arabic cookbooks. The confection later spread to Europe, particularly Italy and France, where it became a popular holiday treat.
Nougat can be enjoyed on its own or paired with various foods. It makes an excellent accompaniment to coffee or tea and can be used as a component in other desserts. For a luxurious treat, it pairs wonderfully with dark chocolate or can be chopped and sprinkled over ice cream.
