Singapore Sling

August 13, 2024

Singapore Sling cocktail was created around 1915 by Ngiam Tong Boon, a bartender from Singapore. The cocktail was designed as a socially acceptable drink for women, with its pink color and fruity flavors masking the alcohol content, at those times when it was prohibited to women to drink any alcohol in public places. The original recipe included gin, cherry brandy, Cointreau, Benedictine, grenadine, pineapple juice, lime juice, and bitters. Over time, the cocktail has evolved with numerous variations, but it remains a symbol of colonial-era sophistication.
