Barchetta

Barchetta is a jacket breast pocket, being an authentic element of a classic Neapolitan bespoke tailored suit. The word “barchetta” itself can be translated from Italian to English as a ‘little boat’, due to the way this pocket floats on the chest, gently angled upwards, like the bow of a sailboat.

Many sartorial enthusiasts know that Barchetta pockets are curved. What is less understood is that the curve is not the only quality that differentiate these Italian creations. There are distinguishing features: the welt is thicker, at least 1 1/8″, compared to the standard 1″ welt on English jackets. The upper corner is blunted, while the English pocket has sharp corners.
