Durag is a type of bandana, a headdress that is part of the cultural iconography of the African American community. Durag was commonly used to keep curls from becoming frizzy after brushing, and maintain them clean. As a result, the hair on the head took the form of uniform waves. In modern fashion, durag is still popular, both on the catwalks and in the culture of street fashion.
