Giambattista Valli
Giambattista Valli is an Italian fashion designer, whose collections, both ready to wear and haute couture, are presented semi-annually during Paris Fashion Week.
Born in Rome in 1966, Giambattista Valli’s upbringing was steeped in art and influence. With a familial tie to Pope Pius IX, he received his education within the Vatican’s confines, immersing himself in the drawings of the famous Jean Cocteau, illustrations of René Gruau, and the vibrant color palette of Yves Saint Laurent. Pursuing his passion, Valli embarked on formal training at the European Institute of Design in Rome and later at London’s Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.
Upon his return to Rome, Valli honed his skills under the guardianship of prominent designers, including Cecilia Fanfani and Roberto Capucci, the latter of whom he credited with providing him the most invaluable education. His career trajectory soared as he ventured into prestigious roles within the fashion industry, such as designing for “Fendissime”, an Italian fashion line run under the “Fendi” brand, as well as serving as a senior designer at “Krizia”.
In 1996, Valli’s path intersected with Emanuel Ungaro, marking the beginning of a significant chapter in his career. Rising swiftly through the ranks, he assumed the role of creative director in 1998, leaving an indelible mark on the brand until 2004. It was then that he resolved to forge his own path, culminating in the launch of his eponymous brand in Paris in 2005.
Despite speculations linking him to the helm of Valentino‘s iconic lines, Valli remained steadfast in cultivating his own brand, showcasing his mastery through ventures like the Moncler Gamme Rouge line and his exquisite bridal collections. In 2011, he ascended to haute couture acclaim, unveiling his inaugural collection at Paris Fashion Week, solidifying his status as a visionary force in the world of fashion.
Giambattista Valli’s designs have been adorned by a distinguished roster of personalities, ranging from actresses, models, to royalty. Among those who have showcased his creations are Gwyneth Paltrow, Kendall Jenner, Rihanna, Amal Clooney, Clotilde Courau, Jelena Karleuša, Sofia Carson, Queen Rania of Jordan, Iman, Doutzen Kroes, Mary Kate Olsen, Naomi Campbell, Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Biel, Penélope Cruz, Ariana Grande, Demi Moore, Hilary Swank, Sonam Kapoor, and Sarah Jessica Parker. Notably, in 2019, he crafted the elegant wedding gown worn by Charlotte Casiraghi, solidifying his reputation as a premier designer for the global elite.
