For the sauce:

  • 24 ounce of your favorite pasta sauce
  • 4-6 large basil leaves, julienned
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 4-6 ounces mozzarella, cut into large pieces

Tomato Meatballs in Creamy Basil Sauce

Recipe:

1. In a spacious bowl, blend together ground turkey, egg, breadcrumbs, basil, mustard, dry oregano, cumin, garlic powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper using your hands. Ensure thorough mixing and shape the mixture into little ball-sized meatballs.
2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, adding olive oil. Brown the meatballs on all sides for approximately 4-6 minutes.
3. Once the meatballs are evenly browned, reduce the heat to medium-low and pour in the tomato sauce. Generously spoon the sauce over the meatballs, bring it to a simmer, cover with a lid, and simmer for 10-15 minutes while preparing pasta.
4. After about 11 minutes, introduce basil and mozzarella into the tomato sauce or place them over the meatballs. Cover and continue cooking for an additional 5 minutes or until the cheese melds into the sauce.
5. Serve the meatballs over your preferred grain or pasta. They also pair well with spaghetti squash.
