Southside
The Southside cocktail originated in the South Side of Chicago during the prohibition era, when the sale, consumption and production of strong drinks was prohibited by the government. The cocktail is often associated with Al Capone, named as one of the gangster’s favorite cocktails of that time.

Ingredients:
- 2 oz gin
- 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
- 1/2 oz simple syrup
- 6-8 fresh mint leaves
- ice cubes
Recipe:
1. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the fresh mint leaves with the simple syrup.
2. Add gin and fresh lime juice to the shaker.
3. Fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake the ingredients for about 15 seconds to chill the mixture.
4. Strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or martini glass.
5. Optionally, garnish with a mint sprig.
