Tabi (足袋) — traditional Japanese socks or shoes with a unique split-toe design, which have been a cultural mainstay since the 15th century, gaining prominence during the Edo period (1603–1868). The name “tabi” originates from the Japanese word “tabu,” denoting foot covering. This split-toe construction not only facilitates compatibility with traditional Japanese sandals like zori and geta but also enhances balance and agility. Worn with traditional attire such as kimono, tabi continue to embody a seamless blend of functionality and cultural aesthetics, offering both protection and comfort.
