Dirndl Skirt
March 26, 2020
A dirndl is a specific type of skirt originating from the traditional Austrian and German clothing. When dirndls first appeared in the 1800s, they were worn mostly by servant girls and traditionally consisted of two parts — a top with the flashlight sleeves and a special bra, accompanied by a skirt and an apron. Nowadays, the dirndl skirt is adopted into high fashion and can often be seen in various designer collections.
An interesting history fact is that there was a big difference as to the side of the waist where the bow was tied: on the left — for an unmarried lady, on the right — a married woman, in the middle — a virgin, and on the back — for a widow.
