Jersey — originally was a dense fabric made of sheep’s wool, used to produce warm, comfortable and practical clothing for fishermen and sailors, as this material perfectly protected from windy and cold weather. Later, jersey was also used for sewing stockings and underwear.

The difference between jersey and other types of knitwear is one-sided knitting. From the front and back sides, the material looks different — in jersey it stretches mainly in the transverse direction, and along the cut, as well as the fabric is twisted towards the front surface. This sign makes it easy to be recognized.
