Lopapeysa is a traditional Icelandic sweater made of the coarse wool. It is characterized by a yoke design which is a wide decorative circle surrounding the neck opening. The name ‘lopapeysa’ is coming of two Icelandic words — ‘lopi’ (a particular kind of unspun yarn) and ‘peysa’ (sweater). Thus the word literally means ‘sweater made of lopi’. In the classic version is executed in black and white colors. The design has since become a national icon for Icelandic cultural identity.
