Viura

October 5, 2023

Viura [vee-yur-ah], also known as Macabeu, is a white grape variety, widely grown in the Rioja region of northeastern Spain, which is considered to be mostly the Cava producing areas. The grape is mostly used to make young white wines, usually blended with other grape varieties, such as Xarel·lo, to make cava, the best-known sparkling wine of Spain, as well as also being used as the base spirit in the production of absinthe.

Food Pairing

Younger viura wines are incredibly good with Korean and Vietnamese food, where the acidity can enhance the taste, while mature viura wines can be well served with roasted meat, grilled chicken, herby soups and stews.
